DIANE SMITH-GANDER, CEDA: Well, thank you very much, Prime Minister. There was a great deal in there and I would just love to talk about forever about gender equity. But you and I have talked about that a great deal before. You also talked about Question Time. I hate Question Time, I've got to say. It just seems like a waste of a very short period of time that our elected representatives have together. So point-scoring just doesn't do it for me. But you know that as well, we've talked about that before also. But there is a question here in the pigeon hole.

The Albanese Government’s landmark Climate Change Bills have now passed the Senate, ensuring Australia's emissions reduction target of 43 per cent and net zero emissions by 2050 will be enshrined in legislation.

For almost a decade, Australia stumbled from one policy to another, and our economy and communities missed out on billions of dollars in public and private clean energy investment. But today that changes.

With the passing of Queen Elizabeth the Second, an historic reign and a long life devoted to duty, family, faith and service has come to an end.

The Government and the people of Australia offer our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, who are grieving for a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother—the person whom for so long was their greatest inner strength.

Australian hearts go out to the people of the United Kingdom who mourn today, knowing they will feel they have lost part of what makes their nation whole.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Good morning on what is a very sad day. But you're right as well to say that it's an opportunity to reflect and to celebrate what is an extraordinary life.

The Parliament of Australia has appointed members to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) in the 47th Parliament.

The PJCIS has elected Peter Khalil as its Chair.

CEDA has always been an organisation which looks to the future, advocating for reform based on a broad base of evidence, not the narrow view or noisy voices of vested interest.

That same approach was behind our Jobs and Skills Summit, this time last week, in this very room.

Bringing together people from state and local government, business and industry, unions and the community sector.

People came in good faith – and participated in a spirit of genuine respect.

Of course, not all the attendees reached agreement on every element of every issue.

KARVELAS: Let's start with some of the outcomes of the Jobs Summit if we can. And I just need to start by clearing something up, business leaders left the Jobs Summit with the impression that multi-employer bargaining would be opt in, will it be opt in or compulsory?

I am delighted to announce I will meet with His Excellency Dr José Ramos-Horta, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, during his Guest of Government visit to Australia from 6 to 11 September.

His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor‑General of Australia, will host President Ramos‑Horta. The President will visit Government House for a ceremonial welcome and state lunch and will lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial.
