A once in a generation vision for Hobart’s last remaining waterfront and urban development site will be realised, under a partnership between the Australian and Tasmanian Governments.

A Federal Government investment of $240 million under the 2023-24 Budget, will help unlock the potential of the Macquarie Point precinct, cementing the site as the next step in building a more vibrant Hobart.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Well, thanks very much. It's great to be here on this very brisk Hobart morning with Premier Rockliff, with my Ministers, Julie Collins, Catherine King, and Carol Brown, as well as the members of the Premier's team for what is a very exciting announcement. This is Tasmania, here in Hobart's last possible urban waterfront development site. And I said to the Premier as we were walking up here, along what looks like a pretty derelict land that we've walked along the path here, that we didn't need to do this to set us up.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: My first act as Prime Minister was, on the 23rd of May last year, to travel to Tokyo for the Quad Leaders meeting. I met with President Biden, Prime Minister Modi and we were hosted by Prime Minister Kishida. That was an important meeting for Australia to work with our very close partners in the region and it was a very positive way for me to begin my Prime Ministership. I am pleased today to announce that Sydney will be the host of the Quad Leaders meeting for 2023 and that meeting will be held here on 24 May 2023.

MILTON DICK, MEMBER FOR OXLEY: Well, it's a real honour to be here in the Oxley electorate and particularly to welcome the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, who is a great friend of the Ipswich community, but more importantly, is a true believer in the innovation and the jobs - alongside the Premier and our elected representatives - exactly what Coles is doing today, investing in our people and cutting edge technology. So, it's a real privilege to have the Prime Minister back in Oxley again. 

Today, Prime Minister Albanese met with His Excellency Russ Kun, President of the Republic of Nauru, in Brisbane.

Prime Minister Albanese and President Kun discussed Australia and Nauru’s shared priorities for regional security, climate resilience and regional connectivity.

Australia is supporting infrastructure projects in Nauru through the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific. These include Nauru’s Airport Refurbishment Project and the East Micronesia Cable Project.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Can I say it is fantastic to be here in Brisbane and I thank Annastacia for hosting us here, we had a terrific dinner last night. Once again today we're talking about a better future for the Federation, making sure that we get better health outcomes, particularly how do we improve, from the Commonwealth's perspective, GPs and primary health care in order to take pressure off the public hospital system - how do we get more efficient outcomes.

National Cabinet met in Brisbane today to agree a national approach to a range of priorities for Australians, including making healthcare more accessible and affordable and better planning to ensure communities thrive as they grow.

A Better Future for the Federation takes as its starting point that Australia can be more than the sum of its parts. That by co-operating more closely on everything from planning and housing to skills and services we can generate a multiplier effect for productivity gains and economic growth.

I begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we meet and I pay my respects to their elders past, present and emerging. 

I am proud to lead a Government that is offering all Australians the opportunity to vote to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Islander people in our Constitution.
