MARION SCRYMGOUR, MEMBER FOR LINGIARI: I want to welcome everyone to the heart of Australia. This is where it began. We all gathered on this fantastic spiritual, cultural land. And I'm joined here with the Prime Minister, with the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, with Pat Farmer. But importantly, Noel Pearson and I were both here when the convention started.

The Allan and Albanese Labor Governments are building more homes for Victorians, creating a blueprint for the long-term renewal of the Banksia Gardens neighbourhood in Broadmeadows.

The second project to be delivered in Victoria as part of the Albanese Government’s Social Housing Accelerator program, an investment of more than $80 million through the Accelerator and the Allan Labor Government’s Big Housing Build will deliver 120 new social homes for those who need them most.

I begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we meet, and I pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging.

I am so proud to lead a Government committed to Constitutional Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through a Voice.

And it is an honour to be here with you, in the presence of so many of the members of a union that has been such a steadfast supporter of the Yes case.

A fourth urgent care clinic will open in Western Australia next month with the Lagoon Medical Centre to be established as the Cockburn Medicare UCC, following an Expression of Interest process.

This Medicare UCC delivers on the Albanese Government’s commitment to make it easier for people in Western Australia to get the urgent treatment they need – from highly qualified doctors and nurses – while taking pressure off Fiona Stanley Hospital.

The Medicare UCCs will be open for extended hours, 7 days a week, and offer walk-in care that is fully bulk billed.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: What a crowd, fantastic. And I just want to say to you that the effort is appreciated. It doesn't really matter what politicians think in this. The important thing is it's appreciated by the people that we're trying to assist here. And I want to say to Josh and his team a big shout out, also want to acknowledge Ken Wyatt in particular for what he's done in this campaign.

JOSH WILSON, MEMBER FOR FREMANTLE: Good afternoon, everyone. It's great to be here at the Lagoon Medical Centre in Beeliar in the City of Cockburn in my electorate of Fremantle with the Prime Minister, to confirm that this will be the fourth urgent care clinic to be established in Western Australia. I pay tribute to Billy and all the people here at Lagoon for putting their hand up and deciding to become an urgent care clinic.

We are pleased to confirm that Australian citizen Ms Cheng Lei has arrived safely home in Australia and has been reunited with her family, after more than three years of detention in China.

The Australian Government has been seeking Ms Cheng’s return since she was detained in August, 2020.

Her return will be warmly welcomed not just by her family and friends but by all Australians.

Her release follows the completion of legal processes in China.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Welcome to the Premier of Victoria, Jacinta Allan. Jacinta and I go back a long way and we've been in parliament for almost the same time, but Jacinta was of course very, very young when she went into parliament. But we've worked together on Infrastructure, on Regional Development and on our mutual interests that we have and I was very pleased to meet with Jacinta last, seems like a long time ago?

JACINTA ALLAN, PREMIER OF VICTORIA: Only about ten days.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Thanks very much for joining me, there are two issues that I wish to convey to you today. The first is that my government will begin the assisted departure of Australians who want to leave Israel. We understand that many Australians are experiencing difficulties with delays and cancellations with commercial flights. For Australians who do not already have plans to leave through commercial options, Australian Government-assisted departure flights will depart from Friday.

We meet today at a time of profound sorrow.

In the shadow of terrorist acts that are truly abhorrent.

We have seen unimaginable atrocities, targeting children.

The most innocent of lives, stolen in the most barbaric of ways.

Over 1,000 people in Israel have been killed, as many as 150 people taken from Israel and held hostage in Gaza.

This is the worst loss of life for Jewish people on a single day in history since the Holocaust.

A fact that bears such awful weight for a people who have known the horror of genocide.
