Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
The Hon Anthony Albanese MP
Prime Minister of Australia

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Proud to be representing Australia at the United Nations this week. This is the first time I've been here as Prime Minister. It's an opportunity to advance Australia's economic, national security, and, of course, our related environmental interests as well – given that climate change will be front and center of the United Nations General Assembly this week.

JOURNALIST: It's a time of great world turmoil. What do you hope comes out of this week?

PRIME MINISTER: What we want to see is increased peace and security and stability around the world. Australia plays an important role. We are a trusted partner, an ally. We are a country that play a positive role in our region, in the Pacific, as well as, of course, with our ASEAN neighbors, and of course, our traditional allies such as our Five Eyes partners, including of course the United States and the United Kingdom. So, this week will be an opportunity to interact with leaders around the world. This is summit season, so there'll be a range of other events in our own region, with APEC and ASEAN coming up. This will be an opportunity to advance Australia's interests. We also have particular issues to advance, such as our social media ban, where Australia is leading the world, but the world is following Australia's lead with the European Union announcement of just last week.

Thanks very much.
