The Turnbull Government is delivering true needs-based funding for all Australian schools, making childcare more affordable and accessible for families, and reforming our tertiary education sector so that it is sustainable for years to come.

We are ensuring that Australian students get the quality education that will set them up for a lifetime of success, from early learning and childcare to schooling, vocational education and university.

Education is the key to a high wage, high productivity economy.

The Government is investing an extra $23.4 billion in schools through a needs-based funding model that is fair, transparent and nationally consistent – as proposed by David Gonski in his 2011 review of school funding.

We have commissioned David Gonski to make further recommendations on achieving educational excellence in Australian schools. We are committed to ensuring that every dollar of extra funding is used to improve student outcomes and results.

We are reforming higher education to deliver a more sustainable university sector, and increasing transparency and accountability. And we are delivering a new fund to support apprentices, trainees and skills training.

And our Jobs for Families Child Care Package provides the highest level of support to families who need it most, enabling parents to return to work sooner. Subsidies of up to 85% (of the cost of the actual fee charged) are available for parents who send their children to childcare.

More affordable, accessible and flexible childcare helps Australian families balance work and parenting responsibilities.

Approximately one million families will benefit from the Government’s $37.3 billion investment over four years into more affordable childcare, including before and after school care.

These reforms will ensure that Australian children, regardless of their postcode or background, get the best start in life.
