  • Prime Minister: We are natural and complementary partners and our vision is to build on those long standing links to make innovation a key part of that relationship. We witnessed an agreement to establish, yesterday, six new joint research centres. Researchers in industries in both countries supported by both Governments will work to solve shared challenges.

  • Prime Minister: [Salutations] Australia Week in China 2016, bigger and better than ever. Welcome to all of you and thank you so much for being here. It’s great to be back in Shanghai, here at the heart of the most exciting economic transformation of modern times. A city Lucy and I have visited many times, on business, on holiday, visiting our son Alex when he was studying Chinese here at the Jiaotong University, Jiaotong Dashwe in 2001.

  • Prime Minister: China is Australia’s most valuable tourism market. More than a million Chinese visited Australia last year, contributed $8.3 billion to our economy. So we're delighted, Richard and I, to be here today to launch Tourism Australia’s new digital platform in China.

  • Prime Minister: Both of our countries see the importance of science, technology and innovation as a driver of economic growth. After speaking with the Shanghai Party Secretary, Mr Han Zheng and he was talking about the central importance of innovation for as part of China’s economic plan for its continued growth.

  • Prime Minister: Doing business in China, this is [inaudible] the signing of a deal this morning, during the 2017 Season a game will be played for Premiership points outside of Australasia for the first time here in Shanghai.

  • Prime Minister: Well thank you very much for that very kind introduction. It is always great to be in Western Australia.

  • Prime Minister: Well as you can see we are here today with these owner drivers and their families to support them and what we are going to do, next week, we will introduce a bill to abolish the RSRT – to abolish it.

  • The Government will introduce legislation to abolish the deeply flawed Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal (RSRT) when Parliament resumes next week.

  • The Gateway WA project has been completed almost a year ahead of schedule and under budget. This project has delivered a safer and more efficient transport network around Perth Airport and the freight and industrial areas of Kewdale and Forrestfield.
