Baroness Thatcher, the longest serving British Prime Minister of the twentieth century, died on 8 April 2013 at the age of 87.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has announced that Her Majesty The Queen has consented to award Baroness Thatcher a ceremonial funeral with military honours.  The service will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, on Wednesday, 17 April 2013.

I have invited the Honourable John Howard OM AC to represent the government and people of Australia at the funeral service.  Mr Howard has kindly agreed.
