Prime Minister of Thailand to visit Australia
FRI 18 MAY 2012
Prime Minister Julia Gillard today announced that Her Excellency Ms Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, will visit Australia from 26 to 29 May as a Guest of Government.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Thailand.
In this time, Australia and Thailand have developed an enduring bond of friendship, built on strong trade, education, security and community links.
Thailand is an important regional partner for Australia. It is Australia’s ninth largest trading partner overall, and second largest in ASEAN, with two-way trade totaling nearly $20 billion in 2010-11.
Prime Minister Yingluck’s visit provides an opportunity to strengthen the relationship across the full range of our bilateral and regional engagement.
Her visit will include meetings in both the ACT and NSW, with a focus on trade, investment and tourism. Prime Minister Yingluck will be accompanied by senior ministers and will also call on the Governor General during her visit.
