Visit to Republic of Korea and Singapore

04 August 2008

Following my attendance at the Beijing Olympic Games, I will visit the Republic of Korea and Singapore from 10 -12 August.

I will seek to strengthen further the excellent bilateral relations we enjoy with both countries and to build on our cooperation in regional bodies and groupings.

In discussions with both governments, I will cover matters of mutual interest including the response to the breakdown in the World Trade Organisation Doha round of negotiations, global financial uncertainty, regional architecture and climate change.

I will visit the Republic of Korea on 10 and 11 August and will meet President Lee Myung-bak, Prime Minister Han Seung-soo and senior Korean and Australian business representatives.

Our bilateral relations are strong and we enjoy one of the most complementary trade relationships in the world.

On 12 August, I will visit Singapore and meet Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and senior business representatives.

Singapore is a valued bilateral and regional partner.
