  • The Turnbull Government has committed to the most significant package of education quality reforms in a generation to drive excellence in Australia’s school students as part of a $73.6 billion student achievement plan. An additional $1.2 billion from 2018 to 2020 will be tied to a needs-based distribution of funding and reforms in our schools to help every parent have confidence that their child is receiving the teaching they require. The Turnbull Government is focused on achieving quality outcomes from our record levels of funding.

  • Prime Minister: I’m delighted to be here with the Education Minister, Simon Birmingham to talk about our schools policy that the Treasurer described in his interview this morning. What we are doing is making a commitment to the things that matter most to all of the parents of those kids that are playing soccer today and kicking around on football fields and cricket fields – enjoying themselves today, they are having a great time – but their future depends on great teachers and on having the skills that they need to be able to take advantage of the enormous opportunity of the 21st century economy.

  • Prime Minister: Thank you very much Lord Mayor for your very warm welcome, it’s great to be here. This is a room of considerable talent. All of you have got a passion for cities. Every single one of you. The Federal Ministers, Angus, of course, who opened proceedings. Paul Fletcher, Minister for Major Projects and Greg Hunt, Environment Minister - my parliamentary colleagues and all of the distinguished planners, not least of whom of course is the Chief Commissioner of the Greater Sydney Commission, my dear wife, Lucy who is here with her colleague the Deputy Commissioner. Right across the room, all of you understand that our cities are a part of our greatest economic assets.

  • The Prime Minister Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP today released the Commonwealth’s Smart Cities Plan, to deliver jobs closer to homes, more affordable housing, better transport connections and healthy environments.
