  • Prime Minister: I’m here with the Attorney General to talk about important legislative measures to keep Australia safe in the face of increased terrorist activity around the world. Before I move to that I want to note that over the weekend I conveyed our deepest sympathies and strongest solidarity to the Charge D'affaires in the Embassy of Afghanistan here in Australia in the wake of the killing in Kabul, the most severe terrorist action in that city since 2001.

  • Early in the new Parliament we will introduce the Counter-Terrorism Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 1) 2016.

  • The Turnbull Government is delivering on its election commitment to support South Australia’s steel sector and workers at Arrium. The Export Finance and Insurance Corporation will provide a loan under the National Interest Account of $49.2 million for new machinery at the Iron Knob and Iron Baron mines. This will enable Arrium’s OneWhyalla business to process iron ore to export quality and is expected to boost Arrium’s cash flow by more than $200 million over the next five years.

  • On the line for the first time since the election is Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull – good morning.

  • Welcome back, welcome back to Government. Welcome back to three years of serving the Australian people. We’ve all fought a long campaign. A very tough campaign in winter - eight weeks. There has been a lot written about all of us but this election was not about us. It’s about 24 million Australians - their future.

  • The Prime Minister joined me from our Parliament House studio in Canberra earlier. Prime Minister thank you very much for joining us.
